If you are still wondering whether you need mobile version of your shop, you'd better check the number of mobile users that already visit your website. The best way to do this is with Google Analytics. This way you can find how many of your visits are from mobile devices, which devices are used most frequently and how your mobile customers behave in your shop.

In your Google Analytics profile open Standard Reporting tab on top menu, then click on Audience on the left. You’ll find Mobile tab there. In Overview you can see the number of mobile visitors and that is what you are looking for. It is important to compare last year’s mobile demand to this year’s to see if it has grown. It probably has, by quite a bit.

In this point you should compare the number of mobile and desktop visits.

If your shop works properly on mobile devices, you will probably see similar number of mobile and desktop visits, or more visits of mobile users, because people tend to spend more free time with their mobiles than by computers these days.

Pay attention to average visit duration. Longer visit not always means better involvement unless you are completely sure, that every web page loads fast enough.

By looking at Devices tab in Mobile menu you can find out how many customers are using touch screen devices. It is important to care about optimal user experience building thumb-friendly site, considering growing number of smartphone and tablet users.

Check your sales statistics and customer behavior

You should be aware of the conversion rate of particular type of customers. You can probably see that big share of traffic is coming from smartphones while the conversion rate is much higher on tablets. In many surveys the revenues of online shops significantly favored the iPad.

The reason for this might be the fact that people who have iPads have more disposable income, but first of all shopping with tablets is much more pleasant experience when one can see more images in larger sizes, and have better interaction with site elements thanks to bigger touchscreen. If you can see this pattern in your customers behavior, probably you should consider creating version dedicated for tablets.

Even if you don’t consider creating dedicated mobile version, you have to be aware of the fact, that people are visiting your shop using mobile devices, and even small changes in web design can make a real difference in your shop’s conversion.
